Case Study Details
What if a hearing aid wasn’t designed for ears alone, but for how people actually live?
For many Muslim women in Indonesia with hearing loss, wearing a hijab adds another layer of challenge: fabric covering the ears can muffle sound, increasing the risk of accidents and isolation. Yet, conventional hearing aids were never built with this reality in mind.
Hear in Hijab is a simple but powerful reimagination. Developed by Dentsu Indonesia and Wardah, in collaboration with Digital Native, the device sits outside the hijab as a brooch pin, capturing sound clearly and transmitting it wirelessly to the ear with enhanced clarity of up to 100dB. Lightweight, adaptable, and designed with cultural understanding at its core, it changes how Indonesian women move through the world.
