On Presidents’ Day in Washington, D.C., 22 Broadway and former Kennedy Center dancers staged “ResistDance,” a powerful choreographed tribute to Renée Good and Alex Pretti, two U.S. citizens shot and killed by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis earlier this year. Renée Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, was fatally shot on January 7 during a federal enforcement operation — her death later ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. Alex Pretti, also 37 and an ICU nurse, was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents on January 24 while trying to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground by agents in south Minneapolis. Their deaths have ignited nationwide protests, legal demands for evidence and accountability, and broader debate over the conduct of immigration enforcement tactics. The performance began outside the Kennedy Center but was shut down by authorities before completion. Undeterred, the dancers relocated to the Lincoln Memorial where they performed the full piece in front of the Reflecting Pool and Washington Monument, turning movement into a public act of remembrance and resistance. The event blended artistry with protest, honoring Good and Pretti’s lives while calling attention to ongoing concerns about federal use of lethal force.
