Case Study Details
Hyundai Motor Group’s world’s first advanced sensing technology helps ensure safer school commutes for children.
Drivers can locate children in blind spots in real time,
while children are protected day and night with key tags and lights.
Introducing ‘Vision Pulse’ – a technology that allows drivers to sense children beyond seeing
Hyundai Motor Group is piloting Vision Pulse with Kia PBV Conversion Center and the Busan Port Authority to develop solutions that help workers operate in safer environments.

BY DAY s
Inspired by Korean keyring culture,
UWB Tag is designed for ease of
carry throughout the day.

SITUATION PROBLEM INSIGHT
Existing safety technologies such as cameras
and LiDAR rely on visual detection, They can
only recognize what is visible. However, these
technologies fail to detect children in blind
spots, behind walls, or between parked
vehicles where line-of-sight is obstructed.
Ultra-Wide Band Waves (UWB) based
systems are commonly used in smart
phones to locate hidden electronic devices
with high precision. If this same technology
can find lost objects beyond obstacles, it can
also be adapted to detect unseen children
and prevent real-world accidents.
The biggest danger facing Korean school
children every day is their own school bus.
Most accidents take place in school zones at
very low speeds or while children are getting
‘on or off. That's because children are small
and often hidden from the driver's direct
line-of-sight, creating invisible risks even in
environments designed for safety.
| HOW IT WORKS
Tag carried by child
Anchor installed on the school bus
App interpreting information received from
Keyring Tag and Bus Anchor to calculate
collision risk and visualize information

| IN-APP DUAL VISION MODE
Bus visualization automatically toggles between
In-Cabin and Out-of-Cabin view based on
whether the bus is moving or stationary.
|3 LEVEL ALERT SYSTEM
Left 9.8m Front 5.8m Right 1.2m

Alert Level determined by approach speed
rather than proximity to the bus, ensuring
immediate attention is given to the child most
likely on a collision course with the bus.
SOLUTION
VISION PULSE is a UWB-based traffic safety
system in which tags carried by children and
anchors installed on the bus exchange data
in real-time. This data is visualized through an
app for the bus driver, The algorithm tracks
up to 40 moving objects at a time, enabling
scalable applications in traffic safety, disaster
rescue, industry, and autonomous mobility.
